Maine SGNA Board Members

Christine Nathan, CGRN, BSN, RN

Past President, Maine SGNA

I have worked in GI for the past 6 and a half years and have served on the board of SGNA for five years.  Prior to becoming a nurse in 2017, I was an elementary school teacher for 20+ years.  I feel professional development and staying current in GI practice enables me to care for my patients in the best possible way.

Outside of work I enjoy the outdoors, skiing, mountain biking and hiking.  I also cherish spending time with my husband, our two adult children and our two fabulous

 Jodi Freedman, RN

President, Maine SGNA

I have been a member of MSGNA for eight years and a board member for the last five years. I have served as secretary and Vice President. I have been a GI nurse for eight years, working in an office setting until this past year, when I moved to MMC Endoscopy.

In my spare time, I enjoy hiking and spending time at the beautiful Maine coast with my husband, and visiting our three children.

Danièle Coté, RN

President Elect, Maine SGNA

I have worn many hats over the years, but became a nurse 14 years ago. I made the switch to Endoscopy 2 years ago and joined the MSGNA board almost a year later. Endoscopy and GI is my favourite nursing area so far and I’m looking to pursuing further certification and higher degrees in GI nursing moving forward. I have learned so much already from my association with MSGNA and am passionate about connecting other GI professionals with the resources the organization offers.

In my spare time, I manage my menagerie of 2 dogs, a cat, a ginormous rabbit, and (soon!) also chickens. I love working out, sports, reading, playing multiple instruments, art, movies, going to Comic-Cons and Renaissance Fairs, and playing Magic The Gathering at my local gaming store.

Sandy Masters RN BSN CGRN

Treasurer, Maine SGNA

I have been an RN for 38 years and practicing as an RN in GI for 34 years.  Currently I am the the Clinical Resource Nurse in Endoscopy at St Mary’s Regional Medical Center managing day to day patient care and needs of the department.
There is so much information to learn in GI, it’s never boring.  I am passionate about teaching patients the importance of screening for colon cancer.

In my off time I enjoy skiing, hiking , snow shoeing, beach days, shopping and spending time with family.

Sarah Hathaway, RN

Secretary, Maine SGNA

I have been a nurse for 13 years, the majority of which was spend in ASU/End.  I currently work in the Endoscopy department at Maine Medical Center, but previously worked at Mid Coast where I also cross-trained to the tech position.  I am looking forward to learning more as a board member and can’t wait to see where this profession takes me!

My husband and I live in Topsham with our 2 very rambunctious children (5 year old son and almost 3 year old daughter) and an incredibly patient 9 year old Lab mix.  In my spare time (which I have very little of) I enjoy reading and have recently learned how to cross stitch.

Linda Daniels, GTS, AGTS, CFER

Board of Directors, Maine SGNA

I have been GI technician for about 17 yrs. I started with Out Patients Ambulatory care unit moving to hospital base unit. I found my passion in GI. The excitement of understanding the body and fixing it with procedures. ( not to mention the cool tools we have) I was sponsored to join my local SGNA region to learn more. Joining SGNA has been a wonderful opportunity for me. I Was the first technician to be a Recipient of the Martha Mita scholarship for education in our region.

I created a clinical ladder for growth in this field for technicians that is used at Maine Medical Center. I have done presentation locally and nationally. I am creating a curriculum for a certification program for technicians, with workforce development at our local Community College. I am the current President of Maine SGNA and a voting board member of the National SGNA.

Ashley Wood, RN, BSN, CGRN

Board Of Directors

I’ve worked at Maine Health, Maine Medical Center- Portland, in the Endoscopy Suite for the last 7 years.  During my time, I eagerly soaked up all the gastroenterology knowledge that I could while achieving my certification in GI and created a portfolio for my clinical ladder towards my level IV.

When I’m not a dedicated GI nurse, I enjoy traveling around the world with my 2 teens and my wife.  Our favorite family vacation so far has been Amsterdam.  We also enjoy taking our golden retriever to the beach and collecting sea glass.  The world is my playground!
